ELEVATED RUFFIANS is a fellowship between elevatedSOUL, the three-man production team from Los Angeles, and Magnificent Ruffians, a two emcee + one DJ crew from Southern California's Inland Empire (IE). The crew met four years ago in a recording studio one lazy afternoon in Southern California and immediately hit it off largely due to their passion for grimy, offbeat, dirty, hiss laden souljazz and artistic-futuristic boom-bap genre of hip hop. The Elevated Ruffians line-up consist of emcees Specific(Jerome Mitchell), Master Chief (Eon Rhodius) and DJ Sway Deez (Soweto Rembert) from the Magnificent Ruffians; backed by beatsmiths; ORA-KL (Karl Oracion), Fushuz (Edward Galura) and Godchild (AJ De Leon) from elevatedSOUL.
After vibing for about two years, Elevated Ruffians burst into IE's burgeoning indie hip hop scene with "The Magnificent Soul LP". The artwork is by Benjamin Marra who has created a comic book for the album about the fictional 90s-era Rapper X who goes on a vengeful cop-killing rampage. The comic is included with the CD.

FROM 1988-2004, WE EXPERIENCED SO MUCH SUCCESS TOGETHER THAT WE WERE ABLE TO EXPAND OUR BUSINESSES INDEPENDENTLY AND GIVE EACH OTHER WHAT GURU CALLED “CREATIVE SPACE”, BEFORE PLANNING TO REUNITE FOR OUR 7TH LP WHEN THE TIME WAS RIGHT. TRAGICALLY, WE WILL NEVER REACH THAT DAY.
I’VE BEEN ASKED TO COMMENT ON A LETTER SPEAKING ILL OF ME WHICH WAS SUPPOSEDLY WRITTEN BY GURU IN HIS DYING DAYS. ALL I WILL SAY ABOUT IT IS THAT OUR TIME TOGETHER WAS BEAUTIFUL, WE BUILT A HIP HOP LEGACY TOGETHER, AND NO ONE CAN RE-WRITE HISTORY OR TAKE AWAY MY LOVE FOR HIM. ONE THING I WOULD NEVER DO IS PLAY AROUND WITH THE TRUTH ABOUT HIS LIFE.
I WILL CELEBRATE GURU’S LIFE… I WILL HONOR HIS MEMORY… I WILL GRIEVE WITH THE ELAM FAMILY OVER HIS UNTIMELY DEATH… I WILL REMEMBER THE GANG STARR FOUNDATION AND ALL OF THE ORIGINAL MEMBERS OF GANG STARR WHO CAME BEFORE ME – WE ALL KNOW EACH OTHER… MOSTLY, I WILL CHERISH EVERYTHING WE CREATED TOGETHER AS GANG STARR, FOREVER. Hip Hop Bloggers “If I Ruled the Blogosphere”
The event features prominent hip-hop bloggers in a dynamic conversation about how artists are gaining traction online, the impact of technology on music promotion and how bloggers and artists can raise awareness about important issues in the hip-hop community and beyond.
The discussion features prominent hip-hop bloggers such as Meka Udoh (2 Dope Boyz), Dallas Penn (Dallas Penn & the Internets Celebrities), Jason Reynolds (OkayPlayer), Frank William Miller Junior (FWMJ of rappersiknow.com) and Chris Rabb (Afro-Netizen) talking about why they do what they do and what they’re looking for to create compelling content.
