A new name to some, Paul White has been a relatively bigger name in the "beat scene" created by labels including Stones Throw and Brainfeeder as well as Los Angeles's Low End Theory collective. He gained much of his popularity following his solid 2009 debut, The Strange Dreams of Paul White. And for Paul White & the Purple Brain, his debut on Stones Throw-affiliate Now-Again Records, the South London producer found himself inspired by the work of Swedish psych-rocker S.T. Mikael. The result is a swirling, atmospheric haze of instrumental tracks filled with equal parts strong Eastern influences and dreamy balladry.
