Mike Rapaport's - Beats, Rhymes and Life: The Story of A Tribe Called Quest Documentary

Here's the trailer to the much anticipated Tribe Called Quest documentary "Beats Rhymes and Life" produced by Nas and directed by Actor/Director/Producer Mike Rapaport. The Documentary features rarely heard stories told by The Roots, Nas, Mos Def, the Jungle Brothers, Busta Rhymes, De La Soul, Beastie Boys, Kanye West, Pharrell and Monie Love, all giving input on the career of ATCQ. Madlib is composing an original score and Peanut Butter Wolf is to supervise all music for the film. The release will compete with 15 other projects for a prize of best domestic documentary at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival running January 20-30 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Beats, Rhymes and Life: The Story of A Tribe Called Quest is a documentary film directed by Michael Rapaport about one of music’s most influential and groundbreaking pioneers in hip hop. The story is told by the members themselves as they reunite after two years during the 2008 Rock the Bells tour to deliver sold out performances . On the tour they re-discover that their own personal differences may overpower their love for the group, countless, hard-core fans, and its ability to survive the pressures of fame, the record industry, and simply pursuing other interests in life. Rapaport, himself a hard core Tribe fan from the first album, panics when Q-Tip tells him “ this could be the last show” after mounting tension erupted at the event in San Francisco. Thus, begins a journey to go back and appreciate the huge contributions made by Tribe to the “whole structure of hip hop” as stated by Amir from the Roots, one of the many artists in the film influenced by Tribe’s unique sampling and layering of obscure jazz loops mixed with hip hop beats, as well as their playful but clever lyrics. Chronicles told of songs like “Scenario” and “Check the Rhyme” paint a vivid picture of what it was like coming up in Queens as young folks living and breathing hip hop in the early nineties.

BIG L DOCUMENTARY - STREET STRUCK Release Delayed

Big L Documentary Trailer (First Draft) - 'Street Struck: The Big L Story.'

Dangerzone Films has been producing a documentary film that chronicles the life of late Harlem rapper Lamont "Big L" Coleman. It will include interviews with family members, friends and musical collaborators including Fat Joe and DJ Premier.

"officially the date of release will be May 2010, Im going to put that date on the 2nd trailer when its done" - Jewlz The Director

This is all from Soobax (then Intellectual), from information he got straight from the director:

QUOTE
The documentary is tentatively titled Street Struck: The Big L Story and is gonna be put out by 2056 Media/Filmwerkz. It’s being organized by Jewlz (the director), Pooch aka Pucci aka Snaggdadon aka Snaggapuss from Doo Wop’s Bounce Squad (childhood friend of Big L/Big L’s girlfriend’s brother) and Donald Phinazee (Big L’s oldest brother). It was originally announced in 2007.

As far as we know now, the DVD will contain interviews with several people known in the music industry, though no names have been announced to us yet except for one (please proceed). On top of that we will finally see previously unseen footage of Big L talking, rhyming and on stage performing.

The most anticipated footage right now is unseen footage of two of hip hop's most notorious and super lyrical rappers to have ever blessed the microphone, Big L and fellow deceased rapper Christopher "Big Punisher" Rios, rhyming together, something the world has never seen before! On top of that they have recorded an interview with Big Punisher's widow, Liza Rios, who talks about her husband as well as Big L.

(The Big L and Big Pun footage is from the set of Fat Joe’s John Blaze video.)

As of now we know she talked about Big Punisher's plans to take Big L on tour with him. Big Pun eventually forgot to pick up Big L and right around that time he was shot and killed as we all know, leaving Punisher with an unbearable feeling of guilt.

UPDATE 17th May 2010
So far the latest on the doc is unfortunately we won’t be able to make the May 30th release date that I was so looking forward to making, due to me deciding to switch editors on the project and also due to us trying to make this Dame Dash interview happen, the Dame thing is getting closer to going down (BigLOnliners keep your fingers crossed for us…), word, other than that, all is looking very well, we’ve gotten some interviews, just last week we sat down with Mike Boogie who appeared on L’s first album, he was on 8 Iz Enuff, we also touched base with a young lady who had been dealing with Bloodshed of C.O.T.C. fame, the young lady had a child for Bloodshed and she has agreed to give us an interview as well. So as I stated, things are looking good and moving along so please tell the whole BigLOnline family I’m really sorry to upset the plans by not releasing Street Struck on the thirtieth but please bear with me. I’ve been blood, sweat and tearing with this project for a lil’ over twelve years so I want it to be the best project that I’m physically able to make. So once we’re able to arrange a newer date, as always, the family at BigLOnline will be the absolute first to know, thank y’all so much for all the endless support and concern.

Peace yours truly,

Jewlz The Director

UPDATE 10th November 2010
Another Interview with Big Don. Talking about Big L's music, and Death.. If i understand him correctly, it seems to me that Big L could have avoided being killed.. read on.

UPDATE 8th December 2010
"Man I been here bothering more an more with this documentary and I made an Executive/Friend decision, that were gonna drop the doc in May 2011. That month is Lamonts Birthday, an as I stated before: I never wanted to really Focus on his death, that's why I'm so against a February release. So my final opinion is May, 2011."

New email update! It sounds like they're shooting the new L video this week:

Dear Friends, Fans and Family,
Dangerzone Filmz & The Phinazee Family would like to personally thank all of the Supporters who've continued to stand by us and helped keep the legacy of Lamont "Big L" Coleman alive and well. We understand that many of you may've thought that this project would never happen due to multiple delays and a lack of updates on our end. We'd like to apologize to all of the incredible supporters of Big L, we'll be providing regular updates to keep everyone on our Big L Direct list informed. As of now we have strengthened our team of people who will be very proactive towards keeping the public abreast of all the occurrences and happenings regarding the project and all items surrounding it. At the moment Dangerzone Filmz is in the process of conducting a casting call to find 2 Beautiful women as leading roles in the Big L music video. This music video will be filmed for an unreleased Big L song titled "Part of the Game". This song was produced and recorded by DJ Rob Dinero, a longtime friend and acquaintance whom worked with Big L around the time he took a brief hiatus from being in public eye. DJ Rob Dinero & Big L recorded quite a bit of music together. Much of that recorded material found its way onto the Big Picture album, which was Certified Gold thanks to Supporters like yourself. The single "Part of the Game" has only one featured artist, a musical prodigy named Nathaniel. We decided to release this song and video which will be a part of the "Street Struck - The Big L Story Soundtrack & Documentary. This video will be Directed by Jewlz the Director & Jay Onez of Money Shot Filmz. This video will be filmed during the month of November and with our Big L Direct Service and all our great Big L Social media pages we will continue to send updates. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us and we'll do our best to respond to everybody in a very timely manner. Thank you very kindly.
Yours truly,

Mark B presents Black Market Breaks - Documentary based around the art & knowledge of record collecting

<a href="http://markb.bandcamp.com/album/mark-b-presents-black-market-breaks">Mark B presents Black Market Breaks Part 1 by markb</a>

In the cold harsh winter of 2002 UK producer Mark B was approached by BBC's Radio One team do a short documentary based around the art & knowledge of record collecting from a Hiphop perspective. Already aware of the global coverage & support of Radio One with the success of the Mark B & Blade Unknown LP (2000) he jumped at the opportunity to take a break from the studio & touring to further his skills & learn the art of producing a radio documentary.

After a few shorts meetings with their team Mark bounced a few ideas off of them & took the challenge one step further by expanding an already well covered theme to the heart of New York City to investigate the story behind one of Hiphop's most recognizable & biggest ever hits both on the streets, radio & MTV audiences alike. No matter what music you listen to underground or commercial, rock pop, house techno or reggae it’s more than likely you will know the song in question but it's very doubtful you will actually know the true story behind this song or its original source.

Straight from the rotten apple Mark B exposes the dirty dealings of break trading, record producing, record diggin’ & the origins of an LP sold to over 20 different producers before falling into the hands of Dr Dre & Melman.

With the help & interviews from the legendary DJ Marley Marl, VIC, Dilated Peoples, Bubba Sparxxx, DJ Greenpeace, David Holmes, Tommy Koi of Mr Bongo Records, Andrew Mason of Wax Poetics & Jared from The Sound Library Record Store this is one documentary you don't want to miss.

This is strictly for promotional purposes only & is a free download. This download will only be available for 1 week. Please spread the word if you like it.
