New Project : Vida Jafari - "Movin'" EP

The lovely LA native, miss Vida Jafari has finally released a few her most popular tracks off her Soundcloud for the masses to have and play to their heart's content. JoLeon Davenue - "The New Mantra" EP

So I log into SoundCloud for the first time in FOREVER and noticed a message from this guy from London named JoLeon Davenue. Long story short I ended up peeping his page and was pleasantly surprised with some dope tracks. I checked his whole EP and I'm a new fan of his. The EP has a little bit of everything in terms of styles/genres but has a lot of dopeness contained in it. The EP even sports features from Marvin Ambrosius and Shakka! Don't sleep on it!

A while back I posted Chicago emcee Pennjamin Bannekar's "Hello World" mixtape and you guys actually transcended sleeping on it and straight up went into a state of hibernation. I guess Penn felt some kind of way about that because he came back legit on his new album "Heart Beat". The album is 13 tracks deep and showcases Penn's versatile skills which can appeal to underground as well as mainstream heads. I've been playing this album constangly ever since it dropped so it's most definitely worth the money. You can cop this on either Amazon or iTunes.

Tall Black Guy - "Hollyweird 2.0"

I'm finally back from my lil hiatus I been on for the past couple weeks, needed some Luigi time before I went crazy! That and it's tournament season in the fighting game community so I got those too...haha. Expect a flood of posts when I get back from work tonight...

Anyway Tall Black Guy just released the second installment of his "Hollyweird" series. Merging a West-Coast sound with his Midwest roots this ten track project ranges from Hip-Hop to House to Funk. If you're familiar with TBG like I am then you can visualize him hitting his patented "Tall Black Guy slide" to all these tunes. Ceewhy - "Black Art" (Free Album)

About a month ago Ceewhy shot me an advance of his latest album "Black art". I was completely new to Ceewhy before he shot me the video for "Crazy Love" a while back so I was very impressed with this guy's ear for beats seeing as he summoned a lot of producers we post up here on Hypedog. Once I got past the fact that he's using beats from some of the best up and coming producers I then realized that this dude can rhyme, quite well! If you are a fan of Finale, Chaundon, or Rapper Big Pooh then you should have no problems listening to Ceewhy. "Black Art" is hands down the most stand out album I've heard so far this year and even though it has a slew of different producers it still manages to find a way of cohering to keep a general theme. Ceewhy has this to say about how be chose the title of this album:

" The title Black Art is more than about me being Black and making art, its more encompassing than that. Black is the "meeting place" of colors. Black is all hues of the spectrum wrapped up into one rich dark landscape. I wanted to take subjects and emotions universal to all my fans who are just as diverse and make songs for them. This is more of a tribute album for all those who support me."

Speaking of producers, "Black art" sports production from the likes of : Pro, Raw Stiles, Myke Forte, Ta-Ku, K15, Wizard, and a gang of production from Apatight. In this album Ceewhy mainly sticks to the themes of relationships and self/socially conscious tracks. A few personal favorites of mine are the banger that is "Crazy Love", the smooth "Date Night", and the aggressive "FTW" which commandeers your full attention. I most definitely suggest you give this album a spin, it has great replay value and I'm sure you'll be just as waken up to Ceewhy as I am now...

Toony x Konstrukt - "Conducted Sounds of Drama" EP

Finally back from Chicago. I'll throw up a couple posts for now and more will come when I get back from work. Enough about me, Toony and Konstrukt team up to drop a ten track EP with Toony handling the rhymes and Konstrukt on the beats. Toony's raspy voice goes well with Konstrukt's bass heavy, Madlib-esque beats. The EP can be had for free so check it out and pass it on!

Inform hit me up out of nowhere introducing himself and sending me this project. It reminded me that I haven't heard/checked for a good DJ set in a long time. By the end of the first segment I knew I wanted to post this. You can grab this project for any price you name, even free. But I'm sure we all can find at least a dollar to send his way to show him some love for this dope piece of work!

Kazi & Madlib - "Blackmarket Lost Tapes" (1996)

The homie Lakim just put me up on this. Kazi recently posted up a four track EP of rare and unreleased collabs between him and Madlib. The infamous A.V.E.R.A.G.E is included as well as three other boom-bap anthems. If you have $3 to spare this is a nice batch to add to your collection!

Kev Brown - "Classic Joints"

"Classic Joints" manages to compile fan favorite joints and unreleased music from the Low Budget representative's impressive catalog over the past ten years. Kev even included a personal favorite, the criminally slept on "What You Got" which originally debuted on RappersIKnow back in 2009.

Illregular Instrumentals Collective LP

The Illregular Instrumentals crew finally drops their first group project for the masses to enjoy. Some of you you probably already know of J. Bizness, Mr. Sobers, and Richard Wright, but now it's time to get hip to Bombay, Belvi, Captain, and Skeem Price. I love seeing people with similar interests band together and try to build their own movement instead of waiting for someone else to give them a handout so this is getting my full support!

Thriftworks - "ZenZero" (Instrumental Album)

About two weeks ago, Thriftworks was gracious enough to send me this megaton bomb of an instrumental album! "ZenZero" gets your head nodding right out the gate with the title track which gets you used to his style of disjointed percussion rhythms, quirky synths, and deep bass sounds. Right after you get in the groove of the first track, Thriftworks gets you bouncing with the ever so hype "Thizza Thizza". This track is actually one of my favorites seeing as it's a head trip all it's own, let alone the rest of the album!

If the first two tracks weren't good enough to convince you that "ZenZero" is worth the purchase, the "Thizz-face" inducing "Goat Ropes" kicks in and knocks your head off. This track I feel is definitely inspired by Thriftworks hanging around his close friends B. Lewis and Insightful, you can hear both of those guys in this track. I'm sure by the way it sounds that Thriftworks put all the heavy artillery up front on his album but that just isn't the case, all 20 tracks are ridiculous and is more than worth a purchase.

The middle parts of the album have that Flying Lotus sort of feel to them in which you just get pulled all over the place by various sounds that turn a normal listen into a full body experience.

"ZenZero" takes elements from the genres of Hip-Hop, Dub, Techno, and I swear I sense a small Dancehall influence in there as well but that could be just me. All in all this is one of those albums that has something for everyone and will definitely hold up as one of the most original instrumental albums of the year.
