Soul Mavericks to represent Great Britain in the World Finals of the 2010 Sony Ericsson B-Boy Championships

On the 13th June, 'Soul Mavericks This' were crowned UK B-Boy champions at the National Qualifiers of the biggest break-dance competition in the world, the 2010 Sony Ericsson B-Boy Championships.

In front of a 1,000 strong crowd, the crew took on some of the country’s best B-Boys and B-Girls from London, Leeds, Manchester, Derby and Edinburgh in a spectacular showdown at the Islington Academy. Soul Mavericks This will now go onto represent Great Britain in the World Finals of the Sony Ericsson B-Boy Championships – in its 15th year – taking place at Brixton Academy in October.

Following a two-month search for the country’s hottest breakdancing talent, the competition has seen over 100 highly skilled B-Boys, poppers and lockers, including competitors as young as 10, showcase their skills.

As UK winners, the Soul Mavericks crew will now go onto challenge the greatest B-Boy squads from around the world in a bid to win the coveted title of World Champions, after Endangered Species from the USA danced their way to glory at the 2009 World Final.

DJ Hooch, founder of the Sony Ericsson B-Boy Championships, said: “The level of talent and skill of some of the crews that competed at this year’s National qualifiers was mind blowing. With more B-Boys and B-Girls taking to the floor, I’d have to say this year’s Sony Ericsson B-Boy Championships is going to be the best yet. The World Championships also opens doors to aspiring breakers and with past contenders going onto perform on the world stage at events like the Oscars, winning is most definitely no mean feat.”
