PAUL WHITE (ONE-HANDED, UK) GUEST MIX FOR ANDREW MEZA'S BTS RADIO BEAT SHOWCASE #005

Props to ROL for the stream

BTS Radio: Manic when it comes to new creation, I was handed three CDs with over 150 beats the first time I met Paul White. His output has been at dizzying levels for years, it's hard to imagine the number of archives he's stored away.White is hip-hop through and through. He respects the art and captures the elements of what you loved about the genre from the start. His sample sources lean towards psychedelics, experimental jazz and rock, giving it a more distinct sound than most hip-hop beat makers. His latest project, "Paul White and The Purple Brain", is an album made up entirely from work of little-known Swedish psych-rock guru S.T. Mikael. The combination goes hand in hand and where White is most comfortable creatively. Taking drug-fueled sound and rinsing it through the MPC. Paul White's "Paul White and The Purple Brain" is out now on Now-Again/One-Handed Music.

Ahu Mixes Paul White (DJ Mix From 2007) Plus A Few Xtras

Peep this revived special from back in 2007. Ahu, istanbul’s finest beatmakingsingingdj and one half of “Dolly” (with Flying Lotus), compiled and cut together selected highlights from Paul’s vast beat catalog for the now defunct shhhh.co.uk. It was the first time anyone outside a small circle of friends had promoted Paul's music, and the first time One Handed Music collaborated with Ahu.

Paul White - The Strange Dreams Of Paul White (Free Download)

London-based record label One-Handed Music featuring Paul White, Bullion, Ahu, Fulgeance, Tranqill and Mo Kolours are kindly giving away their first album just as Paul is putting the finishing touches to his next release Rapping With Paul White.

One-Handed Music:
When we released our first album, The Strange Dreams of Paul White in 2009, we didn’t know what to expect. An instrumental record by a mostly unknown producer with no song topping three minutes, it wasn’t an obvious hit. Nor did it look like anything else: a slim CD in a handmade, hand-stamped pillowcase with very little information. It took us hours and hours to stamp and fill the first 1000 copies, and almost as long to find someone to make the pillowcases (shout to Wahab Tailors of Whitechapel!).

We sold out almost straight away. We made more, but I kept some in my roof space to sell via bandcamp. Last week we sold our last ever copy.* It seems fitting that The Strange Dreams… disappears just as Paul is putting the final touches to Rapping With Paul White, and we thought this would be a perfect time to try to spread the word and encourage people to share Strange Dreams to help the new record find some sympathetic ears. All of which is a very long way of saying: you can download The Strange Dreams of Paul White for free. So get it, tell a friend, and bang it in your jeep. If you don’t have a jeep, play it on your dad’s stereo.

Album Preview: Rapping With Paul White ft. Guilty Simpson, Homeboy Sandman, Danny Brown, Marv Won, Jehst & Tranqill.

I was lucky enough to get a taster of Paul White's new LP 'Rapping With Paul White' last week. The track was a joint with Detroit's Guilty Simpson called "Trust" which I hear is going to be the single to the album available next week on One-Handed Music. TRUST me, IT'S EPIC! Anyhow, here we have the artwork, full tracklist, snippets and pre-order for the LP which includes a cast of Paul White's favourite MCs: Guilty Simpson, Danny Brown, Marv Won, Homeboy Sandman, Jehst, Tranqill and Moe Pope. I'm still in shock about the addition of Jehst, Danny Brown, Marv Won and Homeboy Sandman... DAMN! True enthusiasts will know that Paul has previously worked with Guilty on the track Ancient Treasure which featured on Paul White And The Purple Brain and with London MC Tranqill on Paul White - So Far Away (Tranqill's Version) and Tranqill - Payroll (Paul White's Dirty Dub). Check the Soundcloud player for a recent mix session which aired a full stream of "Dirty Slang" featruing Guilty Simpson (look out for the hypedog logo) and make sure you hit the link after the tracklist to hear snippets and pre-order the LP. It's coming people!

Paul White at Droppin' Science w/ DJ Matman, DJ Nickname & DJ Daredevil - Vibe Bar, 5th February 2011.

Paul White @ Droppin' Science

Vibe Bar, Brick Lane

February 5th

8:00pm -1:00am

Last month resident DJs Matman, Nickname and Daredevil ripped the place apart, blazing through fast-paced sets of hip hop & it’s related genres. In February you can expect all this and more as we will be joined by our very special guest, Paul White (One-Handed Music / Now-Again).

Paul White’s production has been generating a lot of noise in recent years, & won himself a lot of high-ranking fans, gaining airplay & support from the likes of Diplo, Mary Anne Hobbs, Benji B and Gilles Peterson. After releasing the acclaimed LPs ‘The Strange Dreams of Paul White’ & ‘Sounds From The Skylight beat tape’ in 2009, 2010′s ‘Paul White & The Purple Brain’ was co-released by both One-Handed and Los Angeles-based Now Again, sister label of the mighty Stones Throw Records.

TRANQILL - THE HIDDEN TREASURES EP

The Hidden Treasures EP collects three jewels from his vast unreleased catalogue. Chips & Cheese serves as the ideal introduction as Tranqill lays all to waste over a perfect loop. If you haven’t already rearranged your top 5 UK list by now, Payroll and the monstrous one-verse Deadly Wintaz will leave you gasping. Throw in the best remix Paul White has ever done and it’s a wrap. And if you like your beats with room to breathe, Paul White’s Dirty Dub is a monster, an explicit version of the track that first appeared on a now rather expensive white label 7” and Mary Anne Hobbs’ Wild Angels compilation.

‘The Hidden Treasures EP’ is the first straight up hip-hop release from One-Handed Music, the label that brought you Bullion and Paul White.

Tracklist:
1. Chips & Cheese 03:29
2. Payroll 04:18
3. Payroll (Paul White's Dirty Version) 03:32
4. Deadly Wintaz 01:37
5. Chips & Cheese (Instrumental) 03:31
6. Payroll (Instrumental) 04:20
7. Payroll (Paul White's Dirty Dub) 03:32
8. Deadly Wintaz (Instrumental) 01:36

Paul White - Ancient Treasure ft Guilty Simpson

Paul White & The Purple Brain is looking huge. A deluxe version of the LP will contain an exclusive 12” single featuring Guilty Simpson’s version of Ancient Treasure, as well as two more exclusive remixes White created after his sessions with Simpson. You can buy the Guilty 12” on Paul White’s bandcamp now, and Paul White & The Purple Brain on June 8th.

ALBUM SINGLE: Paul White - Trust Feat. Guilty Simpson (Rapping With Paul White)

Here we have the first single from the long awaited vocal hip-hop album "Rapping With Paul White" dropping through One-Handed Music on 22nd August 2011. This free download includes the vocal, instrumental and a bonus track called "The Doldrums." Rapping With Paul White features Guilty Simpson,  Danny Brown, Marv Won, Homeboy Sandman, Jehst, Tranqill and Moe Pope and is now available to pre-order through Paul's Bandcamp. This is RAW!

Paul White - And Nico / Goes To Hollywood

Paul White is back with a highly limited 7" release of And Nico / Goes To Hollywood, the latter of which samples none other than Frankie Goes To Hollywood. No doubt by the time you're reading this Paul's loyal fanbase will have rinsed the 350 limited pressing of these long awaited tracks on wax... But fear not my young weasel, you can still grab yourself a digital copy here set at your own price. If you are new to Paul White, please check his previous work and make sure you catch his recent album: Paul White And The Purple Brain and his Stonesthrow podcast: Adventures With Paul White.

Paul White & The Purple Brain

A new name to some, Paul White has been a relatively bigger name in the "beat scene" created by labels including Stones Throw and Brainfeeder as well as Los Angeles's Low End Theory collective. He gained much of his popularity following his solid 2009 debut, The Strange Dreams of Paul White. And for Paul White & the Purple Brain, his debut on Stones Throw-affiliate Now-Again Records, the South London producer found himself inspired by the work of Swedish psych-rocker S.T. Mikael. The result is a swirling, atmospheric haze of instrumental tracks filled with equal parts strong Eastern influences and dreamy balladry.

RHYTHM INCURSIONS - BEST OF 2009 PT. 1

And so here we are at the end of the year, and the decade. Let us therefore indulge in this most seasonal of traditions with a two-part, end of year ‘best of’ show for 2009. The idea was to build on last year’s first installment, and then before I knew it I’d sat down in front of the computer with a shortlist of 100+ tracks and the idea of actually doing a proper mix as opposed to a simple selection of tracks. As with last year there is no talking this time round, just pure music selection for your enjoyment.

We start with part 1 and 50 odd tracks which have all been highlights of the year here at Rhythm Inc towers from the likes of Architeq, Paul White, Alice Russell, Raekwon, DOOM, Oh No, Heliocentrics, Loops Haunt, LuckyMe, Robot Koch, Milanese, King Midas Sound, 2nd Class Citizen and many, many more. The selection is a nice representation of this year’s playlists too with a couple of previously un-aired goodies thrown in on top. Part two will be dropping very shortly, either on Christmas eve or Boxing day. - Rhythm Incursions
